This document was born from the review and analysis of relevant literature as part of the research project “Post Pandemic: Autonomy and functionality in the Elderly in the age group between 60 and 75 years in the city of Río Gallegos”, based at the Institute of Health and Socio-Community Intervention of the National University of Southern Patagonia- Río Gallegos Academic Unit (ISISC-UNPA-UARG), and aims to explore the relationship and impact that negative paradigms have on the elderly, specifically on their autonomy and functionality. In this sense, the study of the age group of older adults (PAM) in Argentina is a challenge with ethical and moral implications for health professionals, given that it is a population in continuous demographic growth. Taking into account that the country is the third oldest in the region, according to the latest objective data. The variables of functionality and autonomy are multifactorially subject, given that the object of study is a subject of law. Therefore, it will not depend only on public policies, but also on their articulations and equitable scope. Furthermore, the sieve is found in the opinions at the political and economic level. The need to understand this phenomenon has led to a paradigm shift, where different currents, thoughts for decision making are proposed to the various empirical and phenomenological facts, thus establishing the interaction of different dimensions for geriatric evaluation and identifying the functional state of the elderly, involving not only the medical aspect, but also the cognitive, affective, environmental, social, economic and spiritual support (Hazard 2007)
